Thin veneer, including natural thin veneer and reconstituted decorative veneer, is commonly used to decorate the surface of woodbased panels and products. The traditional thin veneeroverlaying process requires the addition of adhesive to overlaying and the painting decoration, which is cumbersome and the release of organic volatiles can cause longterm indoor air pollution. Therefore, in recent years, the resinimpregnated thin veneer has been utilized as a new highgrade decorative material. As a new decorative material, the continuity and largedimension are crucial issues for the industrial production and application of the resinimpregnated thin veneer. In this research, an industrial production line of the resinimpregnated paper with melamine formaldehyde resin (MF) was used to impregnate the synthetic resin on the reconstituted decorative veneer. The continuous impregnation process of the reconstituted decorative veneer was introduced, and the micromorphology of the surface of the decorative veneer before and after impregnation were compared. The hotpressing process parameters including the hotpressing temperature, hotpressing time, and hotpressing pressure were studied to make the resinimpregnated reconstituted decorative veneer. Through the observation of the microstructure appearance, it was found that the resinimpregnated reconstituted veneer reflected the obvious impregnation quality which was similar to the impregnated paper. The surface bond strength of the resinimpregnated thin veneer overlaid plywood, particleboard, and fiberboard substrates were examined. The results showed that the resinimpregnated thin veneers could be widely applicable to such wood composite panels and the surface bond strengths of them were higher than 1 MPa, in which, the overlaid fiberboard owned the highest surface bond strength and followed by the overlaid plywood. It was also necessary to investigate the storage durability of resinimpregnated thin veneers by testing surface bond strength and the results indicated that resinimpregnated thin veneers had prominent storage durability. Compared with the resinimpregnated thin veneer stored at room temperature, the resinimpregnated thin veneer stored at low temperature was more durable. The optimized hotpressing technical parameters were the temperature of 180-190 ℃, for 80-100 s, at a pressure level of 2 MPa. The above results confirmed that it was technical feasible to continuously produce large dimension resinimpregnated veneers. This research can provide valuable information to promote the development of the large scale production and application of resinimpregnated thin veneers.
